Happy 2025 and best wishes for a very successful new year!
If you are asking yourself, “Should I leave my current job for a new one this year?” There are two questions I would advise you to ask yourself to determine if this is the right time for you to change jobs:
-
If you stay in your current position, what else can you do or learn in the coming year? If the answer is that you will be doing 80% or more of the same work, it is time to explore new opportunities that will provide you with new growth experiences.
-
What do you like about your current role, what would you like to do more of, and what would you like to eliminate from your responsibilities because you are no longer challenged?
Asking yourself these kinds of questions will help you determine if this is the right time to consider a move and to gain clarity over what you need your next role to look like.
If you are ready to explore new opportunities, focus on roles where you can add maximum value and be able to further expand your skills.
In addition, I urge you to pay attention to the work values that drive you. By this, I mean what kind of work environment motivates you to do your best work? When you excelled in the past, did you have a “hands off” boss or an extremely organized one? Did the firm value innovation or efficiency? Our work values are our internal drivers and need to be in sync with our work environment for us to thrive.
Early in my career, I made the mistake of taking a role because of the bigger title and paycheck, but the culture was wrong for me. It was a painful but important lesson that made me a more sensitive recruiter who prioritizes cultural fit when placing candidates
We are committed to your success and welcome the opportunity to be a resource.
